Representatives from Mediterranean Port’s Authorities, European associations, railway
sector technicians, chambers of commerce, employer associations, and other key
stakeholders, gathered in Barcelona on April 28 th , 2022, to celebrate FERRMED’s
extraordinary general assembly and steering committee.

More that 40 key stakeholders attended both via streaming and in person an event
held at the premises of Foment del Treball, a leading business promotion association,
where FERRMED displayed its work as a non-profit, multisectoral association devoted
to improving rail freight transportation and industrial competitiveness in Europe and
neighboring countries.
The Assembly assessed the advanced status of the FERRMED Study of Traffic and
Modal Shift Optimisation in the EU. FERRMED’s President, Mr. Joan Amorós, brought
the audience up to speed on how the organization has devoted itself intensely on
finalizing the study of +FIRRST, FERRMED’s Fast, Flexible, Integrated Rail-Road System
of Transport.
+FIRRST key early results will be presented in late June in Marseille, and then in
Valencia in September 2022. The bulk of this study will be featured on November 15 th ,
2022, during FERRMED’s Annual Conference in Brussels.
Mr. Amorós reported also to the General Assembly about the working session held in
Brussels last March with UIRR, the International Union for Road-Rail Combined
Transport. ERA, the European Union Agency for Railways. And ESC, the European
Shippers council. FERRMED will also participate in the International Logistics Fair (SIL)
in Barcelona in early June.
The updates on +FIRRST were warmly welcomed by the audience. And as a
continuation of the meetings held in the European Parliament with Member States
and European regions’ delegations to the EU, FERMMED will continue with new
meetings with different stakeholders to include concrete actions, contrasted with local
socio-economical agents, in the study’s final report.
