On 11th of March 2022, FERRMED president and his team met at the headquarters of Pont de Molins with the directors of the transport company Calsina Carre, Alba, Cristina and Josep Maria.

Calsina Carré Transports & Logistics has become an Integral Logistics Operator with a strong presence in Europe and North Africa. Given its commitment to intermodality, integrating rail and maritime to guarantee service and sustainability, FERRMED’s interest in the company is clear.
The company started using the railway 4 years ago and their experience using the railway has highlighted barriers for logistics operators.
FERRMED president, Joan Amorós, asked “In which cases do you transport the trailers on the train?”
One of the reasons they use the train is because they strongly believe in the decarbonization of the economy; plus, customers appreciate that companies take care of the environment.
Calsina Carré uses the train to do the long-distance shipments, then, for the last mile transportation they use the truck. By using the railway, they have achieved more competitive prices.
In the future, their vision is to link their two main flows of transportation, from Morocco to Romania passing through Spain, France and the centre of Europe.
“What are the advantages of transport combined with rail?”
The French government offers environmental bonds to those logistics operators that employ intermodality in their trips. The proportion of GHG not emitted thanks to the intermodality is rewarded with these subsidies. Another advantage of loading/unloading the semi-trailers in France is because they produce their own energy, fleet emissions have not risen.
Finally, FERRMED wanted to know what improvements need to be made to rail management to make combined road-rail transport attractive. “Do you think that the +FIRRST system is the solution to existing problems?”
Calsina Carré is very interested in the +FIRRST System, because they believe that it brings flexibility and new opportunities for market expansion and the possibility of loading/unloading semi-trailers in Barcelona. 
FERRMED has invited Calsina Carré to participate as a speaker at the FERRMED conference at the SIL next June.
